About Us

O2 Magic
Formed from a night out at the O2 seeing Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra playing Ibiza classics Paraffin Milkshake represents everything about that night. Music, dancing, friends and good times. That is what Paraffin Milkshake represents. The name was conceived by the 4 founders from passing a McDonalds situated next to a petrol station and joking about ordering a diesel burger or unleaded fries and ultimatley a Paraffin Milkshake! It just was right and stuck!.
Getting Personal
So me Steve is a bedroom DJ of I would say 1 year ( digitally ). Currently using a £120 Numark Ultimate Mixtrack Platinum and managing to do – ok! I have had about 3 people listen to a couple of mixes on SoundCloud and 2 likes ( I have truly made it 🙂 ) But alas I am a complete perfectionist in terms of trying to make mixes sound seamless and with someone who has major self confidence issues in one’s ability in all walks of life it is difficult to try and see myself as a DJ in an industry where I see other DJ’s as 1000 times better than I am or I can ever be.
DJing has provided another major benefit to me in that it helps me massively with my mental health. Depression and Anxiety is something I live with and have done for many years. I try to keep fit and play sport but for when times are … well complete FUBAR – DJing is the thing that allows me to escape, maintain focus and you know what bloody enjoy myself!
Nothing and I mean nothing compares to putting on my Sennheisers and mixing music, I get so much enjoyment out of listening to house be it Deep, Funky or Traditional ( or a whole host of over genres ) I could in all honestly DJ a whole set with my headphones on dancing like a 40 year old would and just smiling with the crowd – That for me is Paraffin Milkshake! Music, Friendship, Happiness and Good Times. If there was an image to describe it. Then well …. This is it.
Method To These Ramblings?
So what does this actually mean, I am pretty much just writing stuff out here but it gives context to what PM are trying to achieve in the scheme of things. There must be 100’s of people like me out there. People who love to DJ ( whether they see themselves as good or not ) who do not have the confidence to perform in front of people ( be it live, Recorded, or in a house party, club etc ). And I bet from that there are some people who will never really know how good they are. Maybe they think friends will always say they are “good” because they have too or perceive every compliment as false because they feel that people have to say that. A bit like your husband/wife would say “But you have to say that your my husband/wife”.
So let’s draw from my own experiences. I have DJ’d live at two house parties and pre recorded another at request of the host ( because they didn’t want me looking at Serato all night and to actually talk to other human beings and not just myself saying that sounded shit ). Although i had planned meticulously the set and practiced even to the point of writing notes and timings of transitions I found fault in what I did but then it dawned on me, no one really cared!! People were there to just dance ( Admittedly most were inebriated from the consumption of alcohol ) but that moment where people interacted with the DJ was validation enough for me to say “I like this, and I am not completely rubbish as I see myself”.
Is then Paraffin Milkshake a platform for such people. Is this something that there is a need of, Bedroom DJ’s to perform sets, live or recorded to showcase their talents but not just for them but for the pure love of music and for people to enjoy their song choices.
A Kitchen Disco environment for DJ’s new and old who may not think they are good enough to pursue it as a potential career or even as a secondary source of revenue. From this I would say Paraffin Milkshake is a brand, Kitchen Disco an event and Steve Clark a bedroom DJ who is part of this.
